Head Coach
St. Louis Cardinals head coach Oliver Marmol has been with the team since 2017. He is the youngest MLB team manager as of the 2023 season.
Marmol was appointed as the first base coach before the start of the 2017 season. Later in 2019, Cardinals switched his role as a bench coach. After October 25, 2021, he is serving the team as head coach.
Oliver did not have a notable playing career in the MLB. He played NCAA college baseball at the College of Charleston and was a standout player there. However, he was not selected in the MLB Draft and did not play professionally at the highest level.
Although Marmol didn't have a professional playing career, he quickly found success as a coach. In 2022, at the age of 35 years, he was the youngest team manager among others.
Till now, the Cardinals have played 269 games with 140 wins under their head coach. Marmol's biggest achievement for Marmol as head coach was to secure the first position in NL Central in the 2022 season.
The winning percentage of 0.574 in the 2022 season was outstanding. However, it has plummeted to 0.439 after playing 107 games in the 2023 season.
Assistant Coach
Cardinals assistant coach Willie McGee has been with the team as an assistant coach since 2017.
Former Cardinals player McGee enlisted in the club's Hall of Fame in 2014. After 2017, McGee is added to the staff as an assistant coach with uniform number 51.
In his 18-year career, McGee played for three other additional teams. But he will always be remembered as the legend of the Cardinals.
He is now providing his valuable instructions and experience to the team regarding base running, outfielder, and hitting through the touchline.
