George's death has impacted the Marquette as he was on the men's basketball team. He passed away after losing a battle with diabetes at the age of 74. His obituary has become a matter of interest as the university revealed the news on the internet.
The head coach Shaka Smart from Marquette stated that Thompson was the one who got everything started at the Marquette. He also added George was significant to the program.
George also led his team in scoring during his final two years. Thus, it helped him be selected as an All-American in 19868-1969. Also, in the American Basketball Association, he played for Memphis and Pittsburgh, whereas in NBA, he was in Milwaukee.
Marquette considers the late athlete the all-time top legendary player of their team. As a result, the VP and Director of the Athletics Bill Scholl said, "George's name is synonymous with Marquette Basketball."
