Jaouad completed the double bass pre-college program at The Juilliard School. She got a Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University, where she performed in the University Orchestra, and a Master of Fine Arts in writing and literature from Bennington College.
2:At age 22, she was diagnosed with leukemia.
Jaouad had just graduated from Princeton University when she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, which damages the bone marrow and blood. According to an interview published in Health magazine in March 2021, she was an estimated 35% chance of living.
3: In November 2021, she was diagnosed with leukemia once more.
On 1 December 2021, Jaouad explained in her newsletters that her leukemia had grown back and that she was undergoing chemotherapy in preparation for a bone marrow transplant.

Batiste and Jaouad disclosed on CBS Sunday Morning that they had secretly wed in February 2022 before her bone marrow transplantation.
