Louisiana Little League World Series And State Tournament 2023

Louisiana Little League World Series 2023 is scheduled from August 3 to August 8 at Marvin Norcross Stadium in Texas. The event takes place annually.

The program features teams that qualify through different district-level tournaments. The winner of the event gets to participate in the Little League World Series tournament, scheduled to start on August 16, 2023.

The state has four districts featuring twenty-six teams. The competition started on August 3 with the East side of Texas facing the side from Mississippi on the opening day.

The opening day featured four games, with all eight teams facing each other. Only three teams are remaining in the competition, which are Texas East, Louisiana, and Oklahoma.

The team from Texas is already in the finals, whereas Louisiana and Oklahoma take on each other on August 7 to decide who takes on Texas East in the finals of the Southwest State Tournament.

State Tournament

Louisiana Little League State Tournament 2023 started on August 3 and will end on August 8. The winner will qualify for the Little League World Series.

It is also known as the Southwest Region Tournament and is one of the ten regions of the USA that send teams to the World Series. The Little League World Series is held annually at Williamsport.

It is the largest baseball competition in the world for the youth. The region first participated in the LLWS championship back in 1957, when it was called the South Region.

Later, when the LLWS was expanded from eight to sixteen teams in 2001, the region was divided into Southeast and Southwest regions. Each region hosts their state tournament to determine the team that qualifies for the World Series.

The regional headquarters of the Southwest region is located in Waco, Texas. It is made up of eight districts in seven states, including Colorado, Arkansas, Mississippi, New Mexico, East Texas, West Texas, and Louisiana.

The winners of the regional tournament held at each district qualify for the Southwest Tournament. The eight teams face each other in a double-elimination format to determine the winner.

The team that wins the tournament qualifies for the Little League World Series, which is scheduled for August 16 to August 27. Eastbank of Louisiana is the only team from the region to win the LLWS since the expansion.

Teams from Arkansas, Colorado, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Oklahoma are yet to make an appearance in the World Series tournament. Eight teams from East Texas and six from West Texas have qualified for the Little League World Series.

The state of Louisiana has won Southwest Championships seven times with a record of 24-16 in the state tournament. Pearland from East Texas represented the Southwest Region in the World Series last season.

Little League Southwest Region Tournament is held at Marvin Norcross Stadium. The ballpark is located at University Parks Drive, Waco, Texas.

  • Colorado - Three Rivers LL from Glenwood Springs
  • Louisiana - Ascension Parish LL from Gonzales
  • Mississippi - Starkville LL from Starkville
  • New Mexico - Roadrunner LL from Albuquerque
  • Oklahoma - Tulsa National LL from Tulsa
  • East Texas - Needville LL from Needville
  • West Texas - Midland Northern LL from Midland

Three Rivers won the Colorado region for the second time in as many years, whereas Starkville is making its fourth straight appearance. It is the eighth straight time that Tulsa National has qualified for the Southwest Region tournament.

On the other hand, Ascension Parish LL and Roadrunner LL are making their first appearance in the Southwest Region Tournament.

Louisiana LLWS 2023

Louisiana Little League World Series 2023 is being held at Marvin Norcross Stadium in Texas. The tournament started on August 3 and features eight teams.

The first game was held between Texas East and Mississippi, where the team from Texas defeated the opposition by a score of 9-5. Texas West defeated Colorado, Louisiana defeated New Mexico, and Oklahoma defeated Arkansas in other opening-day games.

Louisiana vs Texas Little League game on August 6 ended with Texas East defeating the club from Louisiana 3-0. The loss sent the club to the loser's bracket, where they face Oklahoma on August 7.

  • Game 9: Oklahoma eliminated Mississippi (5-4)
  • Game 10: New Mexico eliminated Texas West (8-1)

Sunday, August 6:

  • Game 11: Oklahoma eliminated New Mexico (9-1)
  • Game 12: Texas East defeated Louisiana (3-0)

Monday, August 7:

  • Game 13: Louisiana defeated Oklahoma (8-7)

Tuesday, August 8:

  • Game 14: Texas East vs. Louisiana

Louisiana Little League Districts

Louisiana Little League has four active districts as of 2023. Each of those districts has an umpire-in-chief and an administrator, whereas some of them even have an assistant.

There were six districts in the beginning, but district four was merged with five at the start of the 2018 season. Similarly, district one was merged with three beginning of the 2019 season.

Ascension Parish LL is the current Louisiana State Champion. They won the title defeating Eastbank LL 7-6 in an 8-inning game on July 19, 2023, at St. Julien Park, and have a chance to appear in the LLWS.

Where Is The Louisiana Little League Team From?

Louisiana Little League team Ascension Parish LL is from Gonzales. They are the reigning champions of the Louisiana State Tournament.

The winners and runner-ups of each district faced each other in a double-elimination format to determine the state champion. Ascension finished second during the District 2 competition, thus qualifying for the State Tournament.

Parish won the Louisiana State Tournament undefeated with an overall score of 42-10 in four games. The baseball program is in its third season affiliated with Little League Baseball International. The program has grown impressively over the past three years.
