State Tournament
Louisiana Little League State Tournament 2023 started on August 3 and will end on August 8. The winner will qualify for the Little League World Series.
It is also known as the Southwest Region Tournament and is one of the ten regions of the USA that send teams to the World Series. The Little League World Series is held annually at Williamsport.
It is the largest baseball competition in the world for the youth. The region first participated in the LLWS championship back in 1957, when it was called the South Region.
Later, when the LLWS was expanded from eight to sixteen teams in 2001, the region was divided into Southeast and Southwest regions. Each region hosts their state tournament to determine the team that qualifies for the World Series.
The regional headquarters of the Southwest region is located in Waco, Texas. It is made up of eight districts in seven states, including Colorado, Arkansas, Mississippi, New Mexico, East Texas, West Texas, and Louisiana.
The winners of the regional tournament held at each district qualify for the Southwest Tournament. The eight teams face each other in a double-elimination format to determine the winner.
The team that wins the tournament qualifies for the Little League World Series, which is scheduled for August 16 to August 27. Eastbank of Louisiana is the only team from the region to win the LLWS since the expansion.
Teams from Arkansas, Colorado, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Oklahoma are yet to make an appearance in the World Series tournament. Eight teams from East Texas and six from West Texas have qualified for the Little League World Series.
The state of Louisiana has won Southwest Championships seven times with a record of 24-16 in the state tournament. Pearland from East Texas represented the Southwest Region in the World Series last season.
Little League Southwest Region Tournament is held at Marvin Norcross Stadium. The ballpark is located at University Parks Drive, Waco, Texas.
