Santos Saul Alvarez Barragán, popularly known as Canelo Alvarez or Saul Alvarez, is a professional boxer from Mexico. 

He has achieved many major championships in four weight categories, from light middleweight to light heavyweight, including combined titles in three and lineal titles in two.

Alvarez is the only boxer in history to have achieved undefeated super middleweight ranking points, having won the WBA (Super), WBC, and Ring magazine titles since 2020, and the IBF and WBO titles since 2021. 

The boxer stayed at the top of the league throughout his first 43 professional fights, 30 of which he managed to win by knockout. He was recognized for being an amazing defensive fighter and a powerful body puncher.

BoxRec regarded him as the most influential boxer in the world, pound for pound, in December 2018. He was listed third by "The Ring" and ninth by the "Boxing Writers Association of America."

Both 'BoxRec' and the 'Transnational Boxing Rankings Board' regarded him as the country's top professional middleweight fighter.

The boxer is one of eight siblings. This man has six brothers and one sister. His father, Santos Alvarez, and his wife, Ana Maria Barragan, raised eight children together until they parted in 2005, around the time Canelo became professional.

Canelo's daughter, Emily Cinnamon Alvarez, was welcomed in 2007 by his high school partner, Karen Beltran. The boxer began a relationship with the model Valeria Quiroz, with whom he had a second daughter, Mia Ener Alvarez.

Alvarez started boxing at 13 and ultimately earned the silver medal in the 2004 Junior Mexican National Championships in Sinaloa. 

Then, in 2005, he became Mexico's national junior champion boxer. He became a professional shortly afterward. Since the beginning of his professional life, Alvarez has shown his boxing talent by winning battle after battle.

He defeated Miguel Vázquez and Francisco Villanueva but was drawn against Jorge Juarez. On August 31, 2007, he defeated Mexican boxer Ricardo Cano to achieve the "Jalisco" middleweight championship, his first competitive title.

On March 14, 2008, he successfully defended his crown against Mexican boxer Francisco Villanueva. He fought Mexican boxer Gabriel Martinez to win the WBA Fedecentro welterweight national title on April 18, 2008.

He kept his title by beating Carlos Adán Jerez from Argentina on August 2, 2008, and Ral Pinzón from Colombia on December 5, 2008. 

He added another feather to his crown on July 10, 2010, when he knocked out Luciano Leonel Cuello of Argentina to earn the "WBC Silver" light middleweight championship.

He retained the title against former WBC welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir (on September 18, 2010) and former champion Lovemore N'dou (on December 4, 2010).

Alvarez, ranked "number one" light middleweight and unified "WBC/WBA" "regular" championship by 'The Ring' magazine, challenged Floyd Mayweather Jr. on September 14, 2013.

Alvarez lost the WBA (Unified), "WBC," and "The Ring" light middleweight championships while they were on the line. This was also the first defeat in Alvarez's career path.

The defeat never discouraged Alvarez's competitive attitude. He continued to win three matches against three different opponents until beating Miguel Cotto on November 21, 2015, to win "The Ring," the ancestral and the vacant "WBC" lightweight championship.

The championship was fought and won against the British boxer Amir Khan on May 7, 2016. Following the battle, he and his crew called middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin to the ring and promised a future fight with him.
