Born on July 3, 1943, Judith Durham was an Australian songwriter, singer, and musician. 

She was the lead singer of the popular Australian folk group the Seekers in 1963. Her birthplace was Essendon, Victoria, Australia. Judith's original birthname was Judith Mavis Cock. The genres of music she used or followed in her music were Folk and Jazz. 

The seekers were one of the biggest groups in the sixties which gave hit songs such as I`ll never find another you, I am Australian and Georgy Girl. The band only performed for five years, from 1963 until 1968 when Judith left to pursue a solo career and had a massive sold over 50 million records worldwide. 

She died on August 5, 2022, while being treated at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. The reason behind her death was the complications from a longstanding chronic lung disease called Bronchiectasis. She tributed as the most loved singer and songwriter by her fans all around the world.

Judith's father`s name was Alexander Cock who was a navigator and World War II, pathfinder, whereas her mother Hazel Durham was a homemaker. From her birth until 1949, she lived on Mount Alexander Road, Essendon, and attended Essendon Primary School. 

Later her father accepted work in Hobart, Tasmania in 1949. From early 1950, the family lived in Taroona, a suburb of Hobart, where Durham attended the Fahan School before moving back to Melbourne in 1956. She graduated from Ruyton Girl`s School and then enrolled in RMIT.

On 21 November 1969, Durham married British pianist Ron Edgeworth who is her musical director at Scots` Church in Melbourne. They lived in UK and Switzerland until the mid-1980s before they purchased a property in Nambour, Queensland. 

On December 10, 1994, Ron Edgeworth died after getting diagnosed with motor neuron disease. Judith never remarried. Judith has a spiritual personality therefore she believed in karma and reincarnation. She always had the comfort of knowing that Ron was continuing on his spiritual journey.

Talking about children she and Ron never had a child together. The official website of The Seekers revealed that Judith and Her late Husband Ron chose not to have children. Judith`s website revealed that"their love for each other and the music that was woven into every part of their lives fulfilled them completely". 

Judith Durham's Career As the Lead Singer of The Seekers to Her Solo Career 

Early in life, Judith believed her future would be as a pianist. She qualified as an Associate in Music, Australia(A.Mus.A.) in classical piano as the student of renowned concert pianist Professor Ronald Farren Price at the Melbourne University Conservatorium. She took some professional classical vocal training and performed blues, gospel, and jazz pieces. 

At the age of 18, her singing career began when she asked Nicholas Ribush, leader of the Melbourne University Jazz Band at Memphis Jazz Club in Malvern, whether she could sing with the band. 

In 1963, she started performing in the clubs using her mother`s maiden name Durham. In the same year, she recorded her first EP, Judy Durham with Frank Traynor`s jazz preachers for W&G Records.  

The seekers consisted of Durham, Athol Guy, Bruce Woodly, and Keith Potger. Potter was an ABC radio producer through which the three got the chance to make a demo tape in their spare time. W&G signed The Seekers for an album named "Introducing the Seekers" in 1963. They gave back-to-back hit songs resulting in the success of the seekers in different charts in the United Kingdom and the United States. However, in July 1968 Durham decided to leave the seeker following the Newzealand tour as her last tour as The Seekers.

After the departure from the group, she returned to Australia Starting her solo career with the television special, An evening with Judith Durham screened on Nine Network. Following her solo career, she released albums like For Christmas with Love, Gift of Song, and Climb Ev`ry Mountain. 

Durham started in an acting and singing role as Sarah Simmonds in the series "The Golden Girl". With the given role she performed six songs altogether. In 2003, Durham toured in the UK in "The Diamond Tour" celebrating her 60th birthday with her fans.

In October 2011, She was signed an exclusive international deal with Decca Records where she was welcomed by the President of Universal Music Australiasia, George Ash with a beautiful speech contrary to her journey in her music career and being labeled as a legend in the history of music evolution. 

In June 2018, Celebrating her 75th birthday she released an album with a collection of 14 unreleased songs.
