Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin

After receiving a call from Pieter Krämer (Flula Borg), Bumper is delighted to hear that his cover of a song from 2016, has become a massive hit on German Tiktok.

Seeking to capitalize on this, he who has long wanted to jumpstart his musical career again, takes the opportunity and flies to Germany.

There he meets Krämer and a few other characters like Pieter's assistant Heidi (Sarah Hyland), Pieter's sister and famous DJ Thea Krämer (Lera Abova), and Gisela (Jameela Jamil)- a highly competitive aspiring German singer who is bound to be Bumper's bitter rival.

Megan Amram revives Bumper Allen: This time in Germany.

Set several years after the inceptive Pitch Perfect movie, Bumper Allen (Adam DeVine) moves to Germany, in hopes of reviving his acapella career in this new spin-off comedy television show. The show is set to premiere on November 23, exclusively on Peacock. Trailer is out now.

The upcoming series written and produced by Megan Armam (The Good Place), and executive-produced by the lead actor Adam Devine, Elizabeth Banks, and Max Handelman, will follow Bumper's pursuit of acapella stardom in this strange land, and all the misadventures he gets himself into. With a cast like DeVine, Sarah Hyland, and Jameela Jamil and a strong, almost cult-like following of the original Pitch Perfect movies, the show does show some promise.

Cast

Adam DeVine as Bumper Allen

Adam has hit the nail on the head playing Bumper. The actor himself is quite similar to the character, in that they both are lovable goofs. Fans loved seeing him in the original movies, and his recurring role as Andy Bailey in Modern Family.

Adam DeVine despite being a goofball, has had quite a serious career. Besides being an actor, he is also a comedian, singer, screenwriter, and producer. On-screen, he is mostly known for his role as Bumper, Andy Bailey, and Adam DeMamp in the 2011 sitcom Workaholics. Off-screen, he co-created Workaholics and Adam DeVine's House Party.

Sarah Hyland as Heidi

Sarah Hyland plays the role of Heidi, Pieter's assistant, who seems to have an instant connection with Bumper. Heidi and Bumper appear to be the main on-screen duo, as suggested by the trailer.

Casting Sarah Hyland and Adam DeVine as the central pair was a brilliant move by the creators. It will be no surprise if half the audience for the show comes from Modern Family fans.

Sarah Hyland is most famously known for her role as Haley Dunphy in Modern Family. In 2022, she began hosting Love Island USA, another Peacock exclusive. She has also had small roles in  Private Parts (1997), Annie (1999), and Blind Date (2007).

Jameela Jamil as Gisela

The beloved British actress and presenter plays the role of Gisela, the aspiring acapella rival to Bumper. With her thick German accent and holier-than-thou attitude, one which Jameela seems to have mastered by now, she upstages Bumper every chance she gets.

Jameela Jamil began her career as a television and radio presenter. She was the first solo female presenter of the BBC Radio 1 chart show. After relocating to the US in 2016, she has hosted The Misery Index and is a judge in the voguing reality show Legendary. She played Tahani Al-Jamil in the hit show The Good Place.

Flula Borg as Pieter Krämer

Pieter Krämer was one of the main antagonists in Pitch Perfect 2, the leader of Das Sound Machine. In the series, he invites Bumper to Berlin, encouraging him to try his hand at music once again. Pieter becomes Bumper's manager.

Creators of Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin

Showrunner, writer, and executive producer Megan Amram has created a great team of creators for the upcoming show. She is joined by DeVine as executive producer and Elizabeth Banks, the director of Pitch Perfect 2 and producer of all three Pitch Perfect films.

Max Handelman of Brownstone Productions and Paul Brooks and Scott Neimeyer of Gold Circle Films have also joined the dream team. Todd Strauss-Schulson, Richie Keen, and Maureen Bharoocha direct the six-episode long series. Universal Television of Universal Studio Group has produced the show.

Trailer

The trailer was posted on November 2. It shows Bumper joylessly working a security job when he receives the call from Pieter.

He flies to Berlin immediately and is introduced to the other characters. Heidi supports him through his bombed performance on German Unity Day, which she eloquently describes as, "It’s like the Fourth of July meets the Super Bowl Halftime Show except that we are way cooler about showing nipples here." We are introduced to Gisela, who establishes herself as Bumper's rival and Pieter's ex.

The trailer shows the characters failing but never losing their will, with Heidi inspiringly saying, "If you don't take a risk, you don't grow." With the trailer, we are promised a show that is full of Bumper's funny hijinks, funny face-offs between him and Gisele, and the mandatory feel-good moments.
