He began playing football with Arsenal's junior squad when he was around ten years old. He made his debut at the age of 16 for the U23s in the year 2016-2017. Smith-Rowe often gives credit to his parents and his club manager, Mikel Arteta for his passion and interest in football. Arteta, the club manager for Arsenal F.C, has stated that Smith-Rowe's joining improved Arsenal's attacking threat and has improved the golden boy's improvement.
In an interview, Smith-Rowe was asked about Arteta. He replied, " When I first joined the club, he brought me into the office and said, ‘I want you to go and learn and gain some experience for the first team – I want you to come back as a man.’.
He added, "He could see I was so shy but when I came back I felt so much more confident in myself and he pulled me in again. He said, ‘You’ve come a long way,’ and that he was really happy with me."
"In terms of qualities, I think he’s just excellent with the young players, speaks to us a lot, guides us, helps us individually and for a young player, that’s what you want."
Smith-Rowe also never forgets to thank his parents, Les Smith-Rowe and Fiona Smith-Rowe, for their sacrifice that made all this possible. Les and Fiona being the parents of the extremely famous footballer don't make you any less popular.
